Welcome. Kawerau College is a multi-course co-educational secondary school.
The present roll is 435. Nearly all the students live within 6km of the school. The town has a 61% Maori/European population and the school has an 82% Maori roll.
Rolls in local primary schools are buoyant and these numbers will flow through in two to four year’s time.
The school’s facilities include a Gymnasium with changing
rooms, a Library which includes 11 computers linked to the computer suites, with full internet facilities and technology blocks. In 1994 a Special Needs Unit was opened
and now for up to 20 students with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The College shares the concern of the parents for the best possible education of our students and their preparation for the future.
Our expectations include a development
of high standards of behaviour, of sensible and healthy attitudes to other people and a full commitment to helping each student would not be one sided but it would include
opportunities for them to advance in academic, cultural, physical and social aspects of education.
Kawerau College is accredited with the NZQA to offer courses assessed against unit standards. We currently offer unit standards-based courses in most year 11, 12 and 13
classes.

The school has also received generous STAR funding allowing us to provide senior students with courses in first aid, outdoor pursuits, Kiwi host, forestry and
office systems.
Similar courses have been approved for 2004. We also offer the National Certificate in Employment Skills to encourage senior students to return to school.
